Paper and precious jewellery – What is precious to you?
Found paper is a recurring material in my creative practice: I cut, layer and manipulate fragments of maps, receipts and leaflets to include them within precious jewellery.
The significance of these fragments of paper lies in their very existence: they are tangible remains of fragments of time. Layered together, they are like geological strata of tiny moments. All of my work is nurtured by this notion of human geological strata.
The work with delicate layers of paper informs the work with equally delicate precious metals. Silver and gold are beautifully malleable and enable me to create sculptural forms that are at once solid, flowing and spacious, the spaces in between being as important as the piece itself.
